Star Ryder (Dutch Passion)
A medium sized 'christmas tree', it is high-yielding both indoors and out. This vigorous plant is a good choice for those who have no experience growing marijuana.
It hits you fast and hard. An old-school sativa-like high, uplifting and inspiring, it is surprisingly strong for an auto.

StarRyder is the product of a very successful project between Dutch Passion and the Joint Doctor. The collaboration took a few years to create this outstanding AutoFem variety. An exceptional Dutch Passion Isis clone, a premium Sativa with a first class "high", was carefully hybridised by Joint Doctor with one of his best Indica dominant automatics. The result is a very potent AutoFem variety. The first part of the name refers to the outstanding quality and performance, a real Star. The second part of the name refers to the Joint Doctor, the autoflowering pioneer and producer of the original LowRyder.
StarRyder grows like a compact Christmas tree, producing large resinous buds, growing to around 50cm tall and yielding 45 to 100 grams to the average grower. Experienced AutoFem growers can yield over 100 grams per plant growing in soil or coco. Yields of over 200 grams per plant are possible with hydro methods such as DWC (Deep Water Culture) in the hands of the very best growers who will be able to grow plants around 1m tall. The THC content is around 15 to 19% which is special for an AutoFem variety. The "high" is described as powerful and fast hitting. The taste is smooth and sweet.
D mack (dutch-passion.nl):
Purchased a couple star rider seeds and after a few weeks inside moved them to my outdoor garden. I'm in Michigan and they receive about 6 hours of direct sun. I am quite delighted. Some of the best looking autos I've seen. Bud laidin from top to bottom. Looks like I'll be harvesting these beauties in a couple of weeks. Put outside June 1st harvesting about August 1st. Also have a couple Frisian dew autos which are also awesome. Will definately be ordering more next year. Great Job Dutch Passion. I'm feel'in the Passion! Peace
Even thou i had some feeding problems early on, the starryder gave me 184 dry from a plant that grow to more than 1 meter, just kept growing and growing, even weeks into flowering! Thank you dutch passion!
Made a few mistakes growing and grew during some very hot weather. As a consequence I got less yield than I was hoping for. But what I did not expect was the super dense buds, the amazing flavour and connoisseur high (If you like old school sativa - get these) Superb for any plant! - Amazing for an Auto!
currently into week 8 with six of the star ryder under 600hps in 16litre pots. impressed so far no problems yet all showed sex and seem to be very similar phenos except one which is taller the rest are bushy and all 6 are between 70 and 80cms. (with a bit of help from lsting). thanks dp cant wait to start smoking they smell like their going to taste gooood!!
I ordered 3 seeds and one of them is different then other two. The buds are pink!!! I wonder if they are all StarRyders. I will smoke them no matter what colour they are:)!
Just Brilliant! Thanks DP!
I ordered three seeds, germination rate 100% but one of them was male although they said the seeds were feminized. The two plants were of differing sizes (one was only about 50cm the other about 120cm) and they took about 11 weeks from germination to harvest. Yield was good. Buds look great, are full of resin and smell very sweet. The high is very uplifting and inspirational.
Not a bad strain but very-very stinky.
I bought 3 seeds. All three sprouted, the strain's smell isn't strong or penetrating which is good. Among other advantages is its really powerful effect. The yield for this type of weed is very high. I harvested 20-25g worth of solid and dense buds per plant on the average.
I hoped that this joint venture of two well respected companies would produce better results. In short, it's another Lowryder. In terms of size, yield and looks, just a regular Lowryder with nothing special about it. As to the effect, I thought the Lowryder #2 was better. This one is too mild.
Grow Report #1
This grow followed Dutch Passion customer Cannabis King as he produced 680 grams (24 ounces) of top quality pot from two 600W HPS lights with soil-grown plants. The pictures, opinions and comments are from Cannabis King himself. The 13 plants were all harvested 10 weeks after germinating the seeds, apart from one pineapple-scented, sativa-style StarRyder which was allowed 12 weeks.
I can't say enough good about this plant, I am a photoperiod (traditional variety) grower at heart but I have tried lots of different autos to find one that compares with a good photoperiod plant in terms of quality yield and high, I found it with the StarRyder it really is a quality variety and DP teaming up with the Joint Doctor was a very smart move!
I think this plant would suit any grower as it is very easy to grow, I've found Autos to be quite fussy/light feeders but StarRyder likes a good feed going up to 5ml bloom (I used Hesi soil bloom) so don't be afraid to push her, also, watching other grows I noticed her size is totally dependant on the size of the pot, I used 14l pots and she grew to 130cm! The key I think is to get her in the final pot as soon as possible to give plenty of time for the root mass to establish ready for bloom.
There are three different phenotypes and all smell totally different, one is licorice/aniseed another is a hazy fuel smell and the last is a fruity pineapple and they all taste very nice indeed, It's a strong taste but isn't overpowering and the high is of top quality, I call this a "creeper" in terms of high as it takes a little time to get going, firstly it starts as an uplifting high, very sociable and happy then after around an hour it affects the whole body and is very relaxing, it really is a top smoke!
I would advise anyone that has not considered Autoflowering varieties to give this a go as it really is the best I've come across so far and if you have already grown Autos you have to try StarRyder as this will really impress you.
My mates loved it, we had a good time with the StarRyder, it is quite a social smoke and smells amazing, one of my mates said "where did you get this super pineapple from I love it" heh heh
I grew 13 StarRyders in my room and found one special phenotype that needed more than the 10 weeks advertised so after I cropped the rest I left her in another two weeks and the buds doubled in size showing that there is a lot of Sativa in that plant and gave me my biggest yield at just under 3oz of dried buds, that one was the pineapple pheno so although she took longer than the rest turned out to be the best plant! I am REALLY impressed with this variety and can't recommend it enough, try it you WILL love it!
Grow Report #2
This weeks customer grow diary is here, from ‘Insert’, an accomplished grower who has grown several of our auto’s. Here he grew StarRyder under a Hydrogrow 336-x LED (300w) using DWC (deep water culture hydroponics) and produced a monster-size StarRyder that yielded 236g of ‘very potent’ cannabis just 79 days after germination.
Like many of the best auto growers, Insert uses DWC to allow the auto’s to reach their full genetic potential. He uses a home-made grow box 1.8m high, 1.8m wide x 0.9m deep. ‘Insert’ uses Advanced Nutrients, and started the grow under a 400w HPS but finished the grow under 300W of LED. The combination of DWC, LED and auto genetics seems to be a recipe for success.
The following words and pictures are from ‘Insert’:
“I think that StarRyder has one of the coolest structures around. She grew strong and straight up. Growing in DWC allows auto’s to grow big and sometimes out of control. But StarRyder kept that nice ‘Christmas tree shape’. The female pistils showed around day 25. When she started to flower there was not much smell, very light in fact, but as the buds started to thicken up she really smelled like rotting fruit.!
"Once you touched those sticky buds a sweet tropical fruit smell (pineapple?) was all over your fingers. As far as feeding goes she didn’t mess around she took EC’s over 2.0 without any problems or burn. I never saw a yellow leaf tip on her. When it came time to harvest all of the buds were very dense. One of the things that I did different on this grow from previous ones, is use to flush for 10 days."
"I would recommend StarRyder to anyone at any level, rookie or expert. She almost performed on Automatic!! She grew beyond my expectations and gave me no problems. I would almost say that StarRyder would suit almost any grower. If you don’t want the couch lock or heavy mental trip then smoke less. This way she is a good day time smoke. Smoke quality is very smooth, you don’t have to roll tobacco in the joint to achieve a quality smoking experience."
"For me StarRyder is a very potent smoke, I usually smoke a half a gram a day (half a joint), and it was at first a very heady high, mental, that moved smoothly throughout the body. Munchies are nice, but not obligatory, and when you need to get up and do something it’s no problem. Go a little overboard with her and she can get a little edgy, but nothing to stress about, I just sat on the couch for a while
I have grown and smoked Tundra, AutoBlueberry, and AutoXtreme. Tundra is an up high, very smooth and easy going, perfect all around. Dutch Passion Blueberry is very long lasting, and a little more suitable for the evening. Auto Extreme is a very UP high, but not as long lasting as the Blueberry. And the StarRyder just turns up the volume on all of these, almost like rolling them all into a joint mixed with a little gunpowder!!! StarRyder was by far the easiest Dutch Passion strain that I have ever trimmed! (for all of you who don’t like spending 2+hrs chopping leaves off)"
"StarRyder likes her nutrients and can grow quite big given the right conditions, I have seen some monsters in DWC, but one of my mates recently grew some StarRyders in a soilless mix and popped out some big ones too. Give her a good cure and you will be heavily rewarded with rock hard buds that will send you scooting around the stars.”
Grow Report #3
This weeks grow review and photo’s comes from Hazy of Autoflower network. He grew StarRyder under a 600W HPS light. Hazy has developed a simple technique for growing consistently good yielding auto’s, it is a system that even completely new growers can use. Seeds are germinated in ‘Root Riot’ germination plugs. Once germinated they are put in a 7.5 litre pot of Plagron Light Soil Mix. Nutrition is simply BioBizz Fish Mix & Bloom.
It is a proven recipe for success and Hazy cropped 316g of Think Different from just 3 plants using a similar system on a previous grow. Despite the success and popularity of high-performance hydroponic grow techniques such as deep water culture (‘DWC’) many growers still prefer the simplicity of natural organic soil growing... And Hazy has shown that soil is a perfectly acceptable way to produce generous quantities of top quality bud.
The following words are from Hazy himself:
“What can I say about the StarRyders? From a grow point of view, it's another real easy strain to grow, requiring no special attention. I had 3 phenos the sativa one (which looked like the Isis parent genetics) which I thought had stopped growing, and then all of a sudden the buds exploded with pistils and started to foxtail like crazy. I also had the standard ‘Christmas tree’ shaped StarRyder which you see on the Dutch Passion website. The last StarRyder was a tall citrus smelling plant which had the most rock-solid buds. I super cropped the main stem on one of them, as I had previously done with an AutoXtreme and again I ended up with a main cola with a fat round end as hard as a pool ball”
“The smoke is deadly ...Really, this weed really is very strong. The mistake is always rolling a second joint! The StarRyder stone is just that, a quality, heavy indica stone, it starts off with a real nice high that then develops into a heavy feeling in the body and eyes. This is followed by a feeling of being ‘spaced out’ and a real need to raid the fridge of all the contents. StarRyder is a really smooth smoke. This is one for the Indica lovers out there, who don't mind a bit of couch lock in their life. “
“This grow was 600w HPS, Plagron Light Soil, Root Riots, BioBizz Fish Mix & Bloom in 7.5L pots. I ended up with a bucket full of ‘Grade A’ weed in 70 days. If you include the Taiga#2 plant (which was also in the grow-room) I got the pound of weed (450g) I was after. This is a really easy strain to grow, anyone from a beginner to a pro should get great results with this strain”
