Acapulco Gold (Barney's Farm)

A successful recreation of the legendary weed strain. A tall, 'open' sativa with a not too long flowering time and a powerful uplifting high.

Acapulco Gold is an honest and quite successful attempt to recreate a legendary strain of pot that was lost in the 80s. Most phenos have characteristics of a pure sativa: a lot of long thin branches, narrow and not too abundant leaves and long internodes. Our tips: don't extend the veg for too much because these plants take 3 weeks to start flowering and stretch a lot in the meantime. Sometimes, to induce bud formation it is necessary to give them 11 hours of light and 13 hours of darkness. To control height it is advisable to top them early - above the 4th or 5th node. Acapulco Gold requires a lot of light. Don't use a too 'hot' soil mix and don't overfeed the plants, especially in veg. The buds aren't always dense, nor the harvests - always big but experienced growers will be surprised with how much this weed can produce under optimal conditions. Only one grower complained that his 20 seeds grew into mediocre plants with fluffy and leafy buds and no resin production. Most describe this strain as very resinous.

Acapulco Gold gives one a powerful energizing trip that makes you want to be active, to work, to think deep and creative thoughts. At the same time, the high is strong enough to make you space out when overindulged.

    Good for:

When used in moderation it's a pick-me-up stuff and can be smoked in the morning and afternoon. Late in the evening it's better to use it mixed with some indica otherwise you won't be able to sleep.

The buds have a complex and intense taste and smell and the smoke is exceptionally mild for such a strong strain.

I grew this strain out along with about a half dozen others. Grown organic in a fairly high nitrogen soil, outdoors in 65 gal smart pots. Grown in a coastal environment in central California. This was my favorite out of all the strains and I planting again this year with only Acapulco Gold. The plants averaged 6 to 7 feet in height, fairly bushy with lot's of side branching and bud sites. I did not top them and yet they weren't very leggy. More of a standard plant structure. The color of the leaves was not as green as the rest of my plant, maybe even a little gold in the leaf color. This plant was one f my best producers with lots of buds that were pretty firm and covered in trichomes. It smokes very well. This is some strong bud that has an uplifting edge to it. It's the favorite among my friends. The best part of it was the mold resistance. I fight mold on every single plant every year. My climate has coastal fog and cool temps in the harvest season so my conditions are not good for growing and down right terrible for flowering. With that said I had some pretty tight nugs and very little bud rot.

      Hey peeps,

I grew one a little late in the season this year outdoor in The Netherlands. She veg'd for 10 weeks before naturally flowering around Sept 10th when the light hit 12/12. I knew she would not survive and produce as the weather was getting worse and the light less by the day. I bought a 1500 Watt (full spectrum) LED lamp and brought her in about 10 days ago. Shes 5 foot tall and would take 2 men to hug her. She is responding so well to the lamp it is unbelievable . I have her under the stairs with a dehumidifier and 4 fans. Feeding her on Plagron Alga bloom and additive. It's gonna be a very merry Xmas. :)

Happy for you, bro! :) I'm surprised that such an exotic variety started flowering so early. I once tried to grow 'outdoor' strains such as Early Girl, Early Pearl and Early Skunk and they didn't even show sex till November (when it sarted snowing).
